Factors Associated With Food Insecurity Among the Korean Elderly:Using Ordered Logistic Regression Analysis
Cho Ja-Young

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the factors associated with food insecurity among the Korean elderly by using representative national data and to provide institutional and practical information to decrease the food insecurity among the elderly. An analysis was conducted on 5,366 elderly aged over 65 from the data of the ¡®Korea Welfare Panel Study¡¯. As a statistical method, ordered logistic regression analysis was used to examine the factors influencing the food insecurity among the elderly. For ordinal dependent variables, like food insecurity, the ordered logistic regression analysis is more appropriate model than the multinomial logistic regression. Food insecurity was higher for the elderly individuals who were living alone, receiving national basic livelihood security benefits, in poor subjective health status, with low level of private transfer income, not consuming self-production food, and not using free meal services. Based on the results, implications were suggested for social policy and practice.
